BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – A new political pressure group on the aegis of ‘The Nigeria Agenda’ has emerged with focus on how to enthrone good governance in Nigeria come 2023 with a view to changing the narrative of the country positively.

Convener of the group, Alhaji Ahmed Sajo, a former Commissioner for Information in Adamawa State, who unveiled the new group to members from the North-East zone in Bauchi on Wednesday, berated past leaders of Nigeria who he said were the architect of what the country is presently passing through.

Sajo said; “The trend must stop. It high time Nigerians got it right. Leadership is a responsibility which the leader must discharge with passion irrespective of his ethno-religious affiliation.

“Leaders are selected or elected by majority of people and it should be devoid of sectional sentiment”.

Sajo likened leadership to a football team which must have a Coach and a captain who gives directions as to how the team will play saying; “if the coach is bad, the team will play badly. So, we need to have leaders who know what to do at the appropriate time”.

The Nigeria Agenda convener charged Nigerians to look very well before electing next leaders for the country, adding that his group is set to mobilize the people, sensitise them on how to go about it.

He also said; “Very soon, we will come out with our plan of action after series of meetings and note comparing”.

In his own remarks, a member of the group, Niyi Akinsoju, said what Nigeria needs is a committed, dedicated, responsible and selfless leader like the First and only Prime Minister of Nigeria, Late Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, who gave his all for the good of the country.

Akinsoju, who is the Chief Advocate of the group lamented that nothing has changed since the first coup that claimed the precious lives of the best leaders ever produced in the country.

He said; “We need to get back to those good years of good leadership. The Nigeria Agenda’ group is committed to ensuring that the next leadership of the country do better than what is happening now because Nigeria can be better with good leaders in place”.

Also speaking, the North-East Zonal Coordinator of Patriotic Coalition, Mrs Naomi John said that women have a great role to play in the Nigeria Agenda because according to her, women are in the majority in every aspect of governance.
