BY ONYEKACHI EZE, AWKA – Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says it is only just for Nigerians to support Ndi-Igbo and their aspirations for a shot at the country’s presidency come 2023.
He also warned the South East to be wary of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government’s promise to hand over power to the zone come 2023.
According to him, given current happenings in the country, “it’s dangerous to take the APC government serious.”
Obasanjo offered the counsel at the residence of former Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazuluke Amechi in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State during a stakeholders’ meeting.
He noted that of the three major regions in the country, only the South East was yet to occupy the presidency with the North, South-West and South-South having already enjoyed that privilege in the current democratic dispensation.
The former president challenged the Igbos to join forces and work together now that their son is the Vice Presidential candidate of a major political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), adding that their success at the 2019 elections holds great possibilities for them going forward.
Mr Obasanjo, who celebrated Mr Peter Obi, as a ‘bundle of integrity’, said that from his pedigree of honesty, hard work and commitment, Obi has the capacity to assist his principal, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, to repair the wrong done to Nigeria by the present administration.
Speaking at the meeting, the host, Mbazuluke Amechi, described Peter Obi as a good man, adding that his partnership with Atiku is what the Nigeria needs at a time like this.
In attendance at the meeting were former Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim; former Minister of Power, Chief Barth Nnaji; former Health Minister, ABC Nwosu; Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company; Chief Innocent Chukwuma; and a member of National Assembly, Hon Chris Azubogu. – With agency reports
