2023 Polls: Gov Bala Clinches PDP Guber Ticket

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Quickly putting behind last week’s loss of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primaries to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed will now officially be on the ballot as the party’s governorship candidate in 2023.
As expected from the carefully scripted plans, Governor Bala on Saturday, clinched the PDP gubernatorial ticket, garnering 646 votes cast by the delegates to emerge as the new flag bearer.
Speaking after the fresh primary election conducted at Zaranda Hotel, Bauchi, Sen Bala Mohammed thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed on him, pledging that the ticket would afford him the opportunity to consolidate on his administration’s achievements, especially in the provision of more democracy dividends to the people.Governor Bala, who specifically appreciated the Secretary to the Bauchi State Government (SSG), Kashim Ibrahim who earlier won the gubernatorial ticket for stepping down for him, said; “I want to thank the Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, the former PDP gubernatorial candidate, for withdrawing from the race in my honour. I will not take this honour for granted. I will play my politics with fairness and carry everyone along in the governance process.
“I want to assure you that I am ready to work for the PDP, because in my own dictionary, there is no laziness.
“I am aware other parties have conducted their primaries, election is not about war, but it is a competition. Politics is not about policies and Programmes, it is the ability to work for the interest of the people.”, he said.
The governor, who promised to focus on positive things that will move the state forward, said his administration will not renege on the purpose of governance which is development and management of people for the overall benefit of society.
He sought the collective efforts of all Stakeholders and supporters in the task of positioning the PDP for victory ahead of next year’s general elections.
Earlier, the Returning Officer of the primary election, Murtala Damagun had announced that the governor, having won a total of 646 votes cast, is hereby declared the PDP gubernatorial candidate in Bauchi State for the 2023 General elections.
