BY ONYEKACHUKWU IBEZIM – With just about two months to the 2023 presidential election scheduled for 25 February 2023, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State has warned that Nigeria is not ready to have a sick candidate preside over the affairs of a sick country.

According to the Delta State PDP Chairman, Barrister Kingsley Esiso, given that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has brought Nigeria to her knees, all well-meaning citizens should not allow the Party to bring a sick man to take over the country from President Muhammadu Buhari.

Esiso, who spoke during PDP campaign rallies at Warri South and Uvwie local government areas of Delta State on Thursday, said the situation where the APC administration met a robust economy only to crumble the country must not be rewarded with another tenure that could be more horrible than the current administration.

Stopping halfway in his speech, Esiso asked; “Are we ready for a sick President to heal a sick nation?”, to which the crowd loudly chorused; “No! Baba wey nor well, go dey shout Emilokan”.

Also addressing the crowd of party faithful and stakeholders at the campaign venues, the PDP Vice-Presidential candidate and Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, said the country’s main opposition party is on a rescue mission to reset Nigeria and put it back on the path to prosperity after eight long years of torment and hardship for the people under the ruling APC.

Governor Okowa, who assured the people that with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as President, the inflationary trend being witnessed in the country will be a thing of the past and the Naira will appreciate again, urged all Deltans to vote for all the PDP flag bearers in the forthcoming polls.

In his campaign speech, the Delta State PDP gubernatorial standard bearer, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, said the PDP has no reason to campaign in Warri and its environs given the huge democracy dividends enjoyed by the people under the party’s watch since the inception of the current political dispensation in 1999.

Maintaining that the people were happy with his emergence as the PDP candidate, Oborevwori, who is the incumbent Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, said; “I am a Warri boy; our people in Warri have made it clear that they are happy to have one of them emerging as governor, so, this campaign is just a formality as they will vote for PDP.

“We thank PDP for giving us a Vice-President, our governor, our people have made it clear that they will speak with one voice with their voters’ cards; thank you for giving me a good Deputy, Chief Monday Onyeme who will work well with me to give Deltans MORE”.

The rallies also witnessed speeches by other party chieftains, including Dr. Rowland Oritsejafor, and Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, as they all assured the campaign team that the people will vote for all the PDP candidates.

Among those presented with the PDP flags were Chief Ighoyota Amori – Senatorial candidate for Delta Central Senatorial District; and Hon Thomas Ereyitomi – House of Representatives candidate for Warri Federal Constituency

Others included Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata – Delta State House of Assembly, Uvwie Constituency; as well as Hon Austin Uroye, and Hon Mathew Opuoru, who are gunning for the Warri South I, and Warri South II Constituencies’ seats in the State House of Assembly.
