BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu says there is no way for him to disappoint Nigerians across the country by rejecting their clamour for him to be the country’s next President come 2023.

He however said the major determinant in the final decision will be the favourable disposition of Nigerians as consultations with various political stakeholders were still ongoing nationwide.

The former Lagos State governor, who made the declaration in Abuja on Tuesday after a closed-door meeting with members of the Northern Alliance Committee (NAC), also assured his teeming supporters and Nigerians that the country’s interest would always be uppermost in arriving at any decision for the 2023 presidential elections.

“I am not going to turn them (Nigerians) down, but still, I will effectively and widely consult, particularly brainstorm with my friends and find a date to come out openly and tell Nigerians”, the Jagaban of Lagos said while responding to enquiries about heeding the clamour for him to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

The APC chieftain, while urging Nigerians not to relent in their continued support for the President, pleaded that nothing should be done to distract the administration from attending to all existing challenges in the country, adding; “The president is still in office. I don’t want to distract him from all the challenges that he might face today.

“So, we will consult and make our programmes known to the people later and the intention is clear. So, you keep guessing.”

Also speaking on the 2023 presidential elections, Leader of the Northern Alliance Committee (NAC), Ambassador Lawal Ahmed Munir disclosed that the meeting resolved to work for the actualization of the APC National Leader’s ambition.

According to Munir, the NAC alliance had fruitful discussions with Asiwaju Tinubu with the outcome being its members’ resolve to support and work with him come 2023 based on his sterling political qualities and passion for a better Nigeria.

“The meeting ended very well. We are working for him because we know he will win the election when the time comes,” the Alliance Convener said.
