2023 Presidency: Leadership Tussle, Financial Crisis Tear El-Rufai’s Group Apart
BY AHMED TUKUR LAFIA – The Governor Nasir El-Rufai “Nasiriya group”, a political association promoting El-Rufai ahead of the 2023 Presidency have broken into factions.
Accordingly, one of the factions, has announced the selection of an interim National Coordinator, Alhaji Sani Uba Daura.
This followed allegation of high handedness and alleged financial scam by the National coordinator Alhaji Ibrahim Garkuwa, the pioneer leader of the group.
Expectedly, the crisis of confidence has torn the association apart as 13 of its Northern coordinators met in Daura Local Government Area of Katsina state.
The meeting which held behind closed doors for about four hours started at about 9:00pm Friday night to 1:00 am on Saturday morning with a resolve to investigate the pioneer chairman Alhaji Ibrahim
Garkuwa over alleged financial scam.
The faction accused Garkuwa of using the group for personal gain without the knowledge of members of the association.
The coordinators, it was further gathered, have scheduled to meet again next week with other stakeholders in Kaduna to ensure that the embattled chairman is not only removed but expelled from the group.
When contacted, Garkuwa denied the allegation and threaten to sue the organizers of the Daura meeting, insisting that he remains the authentic leader of the group.
According to Garkuwa; “I registered the group and I have the authentic certificate and constitution of the association. I am happy today that the group I put together has grown that people are claiming to be members and leaders of the association.
“This an indication that El-Rufai has the capacity to become Nigerian president but my advice is that they can form their group because I am the authentic leader of Nasiriya, I have the certificate and constitution.
“I will challenge my accusation in court and also seek for injunction to stop further meetings of the group until the court pronounces the authentic leaders of the group.”
