2023: Shun Divisive Choices, Actions – Emir of Bauchi Cautions Nigerians
- Prays for TNA’s success; harps on honest, just leaders
BY ADEYEMI AKANji, BAUCHI – Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu has warned Nigerians that choosing leaders based on religious, tribal, and other sentimental considerations will not augur well for the peace and unity of the nation.
He said Nigeria’s survival and dream of towing the path of sustainable growth and development depend on electing individuals who are selfless and honest as leaders to drive the nation’s democratic process.
Alhaji Adamu, who chairs the Bauchi State Council of Traditional Rulers (BSCTR), issued the caution when members of ‘The Nigeria Agenda’ (TNA) paid an advocacy visit to him in his palace in Bauchi.
According to the traditional ruler, allowing tribal, religious, and other mundane sentiments to influence the choice of leaders in the country has been responsible for the worrying level of poverty and poor development process in the country.
The royal father stressed the need for Nigerians to see themselves as one irrespective of the ethno-religious and political differences, adding that anywhere they find themselves, leaders must be honest, sincere, and just in carrying out their responsibilities.
He said such noble qualities in leadership are needed for the country to develop and lauded the TNA team’s efforts in advocating the Nigeria Agenda and unity, saying with such awareness, people will understand the importance of having good leadership in the country.
Alhaji Adamu, who prayed for the TNA to succeed in its mission, said the group’s agenda if properly implemented has the capacity to positively change the country’s narratives.
In his remarks, the TNA Team lead and former Adamawa state Information Commissioner, Alhaji Ahmed Sajoh said they were in the palace to seek royal blessings and also intimate the Emir of the group’s mission.
He further said; “We want to advocate against division in the block of South South, North East, South West, North West, tribal and religious division among others in the country. To emphasize the need for unity togetherness and agenda for Nigeria to be Nigeria as one entity,”.
Alhaji Sajoh also said; “It is possible to avoid introducing tribal sentiments, religious factors and the north/south dichotomy as we pursue the common good of this nation,”, adding that the TNA’s advocacy is generally about leaders being honest, just, fair, and inspirational in their vision to keep the country together.
“We must realise that what is of great importance is our unity and the progress of the country”, the TNA Convener said, even as he urged traditional and religious leaders to support the Movement to succeed in its quest to have a united and prosperous Nigeria going forward.
