- Fully backs coalition, but remains PDP member
Former Governor of Jigawa State Sule Lamido, says all patriotic Nigerians must join forces to stop President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from returning to the Aso Rock Villa come 2027.
This is as he explained being receptive and open to any democratic arrangement the will save the country and rescue it from the bad governance and pain inflicted on citizens by the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
However, the one-time Minister of Foreign Affairs said despite his strong support for the coalition of patriotic Nigerians to upstage Tinubu and APC, he is staying put in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), based on principles.
Speaking in an interview with The Vanguard in Abuja on Wednesday, Lamido explained that although he fully supports the coalition of opposition parties which has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with Senator David Mark as Chairman, he will remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), based on principle.
According to him, he would be going against a personal principle if he abandons the PDP, which he helped build from scratch, for “ingrates” to kill and bury.
Lamido said, “Yes. I’m open to any arrangement that can confront the APC and rescue Nigeria. I’ll support those who share that goal. I’ll campaign with them. But my platform is the PDP. Even though it’s very sick, I will stay and fight for its survival.”
Commenting on the decision of Senator David Mark to resign his membership of the PDP, the former Minister said, “David Mark made his sacrifice by stepping away. Mine is different.
“I choose to stay and fight. We’re all making sacrifices in different ways for the same objective.
“My take is simple: I want a united, secure, safe, and prosperous Nigeria. That’s what I truly want.”
Further maintaining that actions by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and his allies, to weaken the PDP notwithstanding, the former governor said no matter what happens, the PDP will outlive its detractors, especially those currently holding the party to ransom.
He accused Wike, alongside others he considered “ingrates”, of working hand in gloves with President Tinubu and the ruling APC in a desperate bid to feed on PDP’s carcass should they succeed in killing the country’s main opposition party.
