…Says, I’m going nowhere

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI – Bauchi – For the second time within 48 hours, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has declared that he remains a leading member of Nigeria’s main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in spite of ongoing internal leadership challenges facing the party.

This was as confident looking Governor Mohammed dismissed speculations that he had concluded arrangements to shift camp to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that such are unsubstantiated lies.

Mohammed, who stated these while chatting with journalists on Friday, March 20, 2026, shortly after the Eid Prayers marking the end of the Ramadan fasting, affirmed and declared his political stance as a leader of the PDP.

He therefore called for matured and issue-based political discourse and engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.

Mohammed stated that the crisis within the PDP are not insurmountable, thus expressed confidence in the abilities of key players within the party to resolving the issues through frank, but meaningful dialogue and strategic engagement.

The Bauchi Governor said; “Politics is dynamic, but we must be strategic in playing it to the advantage of the teeming supporters and party members.

“Political leadership must be guided by vision and integrity rather than desperation for power. Bauchi people are politically aware and cannot be misled,” he emphasised.

Mohammed also called on political actors in the State to avoid bitterness and divisive tendencies in order not to overheat the polity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He particularly urged the people to embrace peaceful coexistence and healthy competition as against violence which leads to destruction of lives and property.

Mohammed further said; “This is a State with a rich democratic history. We must not engage in politics of hostility. Power comes from God, and the people will always have the right to a choice of who leads them”.
