BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has accused All Progressives Congress (APC) of instigating crisis and divisions within the opposition Parties as part of its orchestrated plans to dubiously retain power beyond 2027.

Consequently, the NNPP warned that the ruling party is in for a shocker as no amount of deliberate sponsorship of internal conflicts in some parties will make Nigerians forget and forgive the pains and suffering inflicted on them by the President Bola Tinubu-led APC administration

National Chairman of the NNPP, Ajuji Ahmed, who spoke at the Party’s campaign flag-off for its Ondo State governorship candidate, Olugbenga Edema, in Akure, on Thursday, slammed the APC for interfering with the internal affairs of the opposition parties by causing division among members to weaken the parties’ structure and take control.

According to him, the calculated moves by the APC are against the backdrop of  plans by the opposition leaders to hold “merger talks” aimed at dislodging the ruling party ahead of the general elections in 2027.

Ahmed said; “The APC is doing everything it can in order to win the 2027 general election. Certainly, there is evidence everywhere that they are interfering in other party.

“But it is left to the other political party to maintain their integrity and ensure they remain one and viable opposition to the APC before and after the 2027 election”.

The NNPP chairman further declared that the APC should be prepared to hand over power after President Bola Tinubu’s uneventful first tenure, saying the NNPP is in collaboration with opposition parties to form alliance ahead of 2027 poll.

Further explaining the situation at hand, Ahmed said; “So, we have our doors open in such a way that if there is going to be a coalition of all the political parties to go into the election, we are ready for that”.

He said unlike the electoral fraud perpetrated in Edo gubernatorial poll, NNPP is ready to capture Ondo State in order to send warning signals to APC that Nigerians have already rejected the Party, even as he pleaded electorate to troop out en-masse and vote Edema in the election as the next governor of the Sunshine State.

The NNPP Chairman described Edema as a transparent leader and party loyalist whose programmes and policies for Ondo State would put an end to the current economic crisis and hardship caused by the APC administration

Addressing the people and party supporters at the campaign venue, NNPP governorship flag-bearer, Edema challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide a level-playing field for all political parties in the forthcoming election.

He also assured the people that the NNPP is ready to spring surprises at the polls, warning the electoral body to avoid repeating and encouraging the alleged ‘electoral fraud’ witnessed during the Edo state governorship poll on Saturday, September 24, 2024.

Pointedly, the NNPP candidate said; “The last one was what happened in Edo state with the fraud. How they went to all the collation centres and manipulated the results of the election that were sent from the polling units was worrisome.

“They took results from the collation centres to INEC headquarters, which is contrary to the Electoral Act which states that you should do your counting at the venue where the election was conducted.

“Therefore, we are saying Ondo state is not Edo state. Ondo is not Lagos state. The people of Ondo are one of the most enlightened in the whole country, and we are capable of protecting our votes, and we will protect it. We do not fear them. We will dare them”.
