Former Governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam, has warned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a patient currently in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and could be dead before the 2027 elections.

He said that with the seemingly intractable crisis, including the battle over who should be the National Secretary, the Party’s leaders must take serious steps to fix its problems if the PDP hopes to survive till 2027 and beyond.

Suswam, who spoke on Arise TV’s programme, The Morning Show, said the party is in a critical condition that requires urgent attention, adding, “A lot of people are hanging on, waiting to see the ultimate end of this party. Many members have lost hope and believe the party might not survive.”

However, he noted that what may help to save the Party are the ongoing moves and efforts by PDP governors and former governors, led by ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki.

He also said, “Whether there is light at the end of the tunnel in the efforts made by Senator Saraki will be seen in the next two weeks. For now, I would say that PDP is in the hospital. Yes. Is it in the ICU to some extent? Yes, it is. Can it be rescued? Yes, if the proper medicine is applied.”

According to him, comparing the PDP to a patient in the Intensive Care Unit means its survival chances are 50-50, warning that “if Saraki’s team fails, the party may not survive” past the 2027 general elections.

Recalled that recently there was what many commentators referred to as political sunami in Delta State as the nation’s opposition party recently experienced a gale of defection with the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and other leaders, as well as members of the PDP moved to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
