With consultations heightening on political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in a closed door session in Abuja.

Obi, who visited the former President at the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation headquarters in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Thursday, September 15, 2025, described him as an “elder brother, statesman, and leader.”

Confirming the visit on his official X handle (formerly Twitter) page on Thursday, Obi wrote: “Today in Abuja, I met with my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan @GEJonathan. We had a fruitful closed-door meeting and discussed the state of our dear nation. – PO.”

Among those who accompanied the former Anambra state governor on the visit was a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Anambra state, Osekola Obaze.

Though discussions at the meeting have not been officially made public, political pundits are upbeat weaving their projections around issues relating to the 2027 presidential elections

Given his strong showing in the 2023 elections, where he came third behind President Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the former Anambra Governor has kept alive active engagement with political stakeholders across the country.

Many are already seeing this latest meeting with ex-President Jonathan in the light of Obi’s focused engagements with key political figures amid ongoing conversations about Nigeria’s political direction and governance under President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
