Abdul-Aziz Na’ibi Abubakar, a political analyst and commentator, has declared that Nigerians have no logical reasons whatsoever to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 except if motivated by ‘regional or tribal prejudice’.
He noted that if the same Nigerians who voted against former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) in 2015 over perceived leadership failures that have proven to be otherwise cannot act differently with double standards.
Abubakar’s statement which was shared on his X handle on Friday, has ignited a firestorm of reactions, with users on X debating Nigeria’s political landscape, tribal affiliations, and leadership accountability.
Abubakar in his post challenged the consistency of voters who opposed Jonathan in 2015, stressing that supporting Tinubu in 2027 would reflect bias as against principle.
In the words of Abubakar; “If you voted against GEJ in 2015 due to his perceived failure in leadership, you have no logical reason to support Bola Tinubu in 2027, unless your decision is driven by regional or tribal prejudice”.
As expected, Abubakar’s statement has elicited diverse opinion as some X users accused him of hypocrisy and pushing a regional agenda, while others echoed his call for non-tribal political decisions.
Some equally pointed at Tinubu’s role in supporting late former President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2015 victory and therefore questioned why northern voters, in particular, appear to distance themselves from Tinubu now.
One of the users @onwuanaibe40929 wrote; “I am despised why average northerners are not in support of Tinubu, knowing fully well the role he played for Buhari to emerge as president in 2015. There’s the need for national unity over regional divides”.
Another user @OmotundeBabs wrote; “Lol, Yaro, don’t worry yourself because no sensible Nigerian will vote for Atiku except all of you parasites feeding on him”.
@sunolix also wrote; “If you don’t want PBAT in 2027, it’s your right to, but if you want others to join in your journey, you will need to do more than fGEJ as your only reference point, bro. Who are you bringing, and what will the person do differently”.
The debate also touched on Nigeria’s persistent tribal and regional divides. In his own comment, @dclicktoyou123 wrote; “Yes, it’s driven by both prejudices. Ask Grok or any AI-enabled search which region is most tribalistic in Nigeria’s political and social settings. The well-detailed answers with reasons and precision analytics will widen your wits”.
However, @valtime2 accused Abubakar of tribal bias, saying; “But he reinforced Buhari when he failed woefully. I am not a fan of Tinubu, but for this to be coming from a northerner, you are been driven by tribal and regional prejudice”.
