For allegedly having carnal knowledge of his five-year-old daughter, a Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital has ordered that 40 years old Progress Phimia be remanded at a correctional centre until Thursday, December 9, 2021.
The charge sheet, N0 PMC/1859C/2021, at the hearing on Friday, December 3, 2021, read: “You, Progress Phimia, male of Philips Close off Road 24, Agip Estate, Port Harcourt, sometimes in the month of November 2021 in Port Harcourt Magisterial district, unlawfully had carnal knowledge of your daughter, aged five years, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 218 of Criminal Code Cap “37” Vol.11 laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 2004.”
With the defendant not taking a plea when the charge was read to him, the presiding Chief Magistrate adjourned to December 9, 2021, and ordered that the case file be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice.
