A Cry For Justice

Share

My name is Gabrealla Solomon Tarfa, I’m a Public Administration student. I grew up in Du Merci Orphanage with my twin brother Gabriel and other siblings. We were taught to believe in our rights as Nigerian citizens.

The Ordeal Begins

On Christmas Day, 2019, our lives took a dramatic turn. A joint task force of the Nigerian Police and NAPTIP operatives in Kano State forcibly removed us from our home. We were detained at Nassarawa Government Orphanage, allegedly for our own safety.

The Court Case

Our father, Prof. Solomon Tarfa, was taken to court and charged with kidnapping, abduction, and running an illegal orphanage. Despite being granted bail, he was later falsely accused of forging a certificate of Women Affairs Kano State and sentenced to three years in prison with an option of N50,000 fine to spend two years in prison. However, justice prevailed when the Court of Appeal discharged and acquitted him of all charges on January 27, 2023 after spending one year.

The Fight for Release

Despite our father’s acquittal, 16 of my siblings still remain in Kano State custody. Our parents are still fighting for our release. We urge the Kano State Government to respect the court’s decision and release my siblings to reunite with our family.

Denial of Justice

For the past five years, I’ve studied the case proceedings. I discovered that the judiciary has been fair, but individuals like the Commissioner of Women Affairs and the Chairman Fostering Committee are denying us justice. Recently, a court order was given for our siblings’ release, but they refused to comply.

A Call for Help

We urgently seek support from international NGOs, Nigerian citizens, and advocates to help us fight for justice. For over five years, our family has endured a prolonged and unjust situation. We need your assistance to bring this matter to a just resolution.

Is Justice Being Denied?

Is it right for Nigerians to deny “Justice” to orphans and vulnerable children in Du Merci Orphanage?
