BY ONYEKACHUKWU IBEZIM – It is certainly a painful and mourning time for Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the Anambra people following the bizarre circumstances surrounding the death of a lawmaker, Hon Okechukwu Okoye who was kidnapped last week by unknown gunmen.

Quite sadly the Anambra State Police Command confirmed on Saturday that the lifeless head of Okoye, who represented Governor Soludo’s constituency in the State House of Assembly, was found at Nnobi in Idemili South Local Government Area of the State.

With the killers suspected to have removed his body, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Tochukwu Ikenga said that Okoye had been killed and “His head was found along Nnobi road today (Saturday). There is no suspect in custody yet.”

Okoye and one other person were kidnapped at Aguata, with his Toyota Sienna car abandoned at the crime scene. However, the police later recovered the car, saying that operatives have been deployed to rescue the lawmaker and begin a manhunt to track the kidnappers.

Governor Soludo had while presenting the state’s revised budget to the Anambra lawmakers on Friday, informed them that their colleague, who represents him in the House of Assembly, was still being held by his abductors.

The Governor told the Assemblymen; ”I regret that one of you, the member representing the good people of Aguata II Constituency in the House of Assembly (my own representative), Hon. Okechukwu Okoye is still in the custody of the kidnappers.

“The security agencies are working very hard and round the clock to secure his freedom. God is on the throne and Anambra will win. Let me leave it at that.”
