A member of the National Youth Service Corps, known as Abba, who was abducted by bandits and who was seen being tortured in captivity by his abductors, has suddenly appeared in a new video released by his captors, dismissing reports that he had been killed.

The video, which surfaced on Sunday, March 8, 2026, showed the Abba speaking from what appeared to be his captors’ hideout and also used as a den for their victims.

Abba was seen in the recorded video that was purportedly made on the 19th day of Ramadan, contradicting claims by his family that he might have been killed since communication with the bandits that kidnapped him stopped.

The family of Abba had expressed serious fears that he may have died even after the payment of N10 million ransom to the kidnappers who later made additional demands and later cut off communication concerning his condition.

The family of Abba faced serious fear and uncertainty resolved that the NYSC corps member may have been killed by his abductors and therefore proceeded to conduct a funeral prayer in absentia, known as Janaza Gha’ib in line with Islamic rites.

In what appeared a reaction, the abductors of Abba released a new video suggesting that Abba is still alive in captivity.

The family had said that after the payment of N10 million ransom which was gathered through loans and sale of family properties, the kidnappers made additional demands to enable his release.

The demands included the purchase of two motorcycles among other items which the family said they were unable to meet since they have been stretched beyond limits and left with a huge debt hanging on them as a result of the development.
