After spending about seven months in captivity, students and staff members of Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State abducted by bandits have finally regained their freedom

The cheering news came from Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, via his X handle on Monday.

The bandits kidnapped the students and staff during an attack around the Gusau area early in February this year.

Zagazola, who did not give details or the circumstances surrounding their release, was also quiet on whether or not ransom was paid to the bandits.

However, he indicated that security operatives were involved and played a crucial role in getting the victims freed from captivity.

Zagazola’s message stated thus; “Abducted students of Federal University Gusau and staff regain freedom.

“It was gathered that the students and staff were kidnapped during an attack by bandits in the Gusau area in February of this year.

“After spending an extended period in captivity, it has been confirmed that all the abducted individuals have returned in good health.”

In recent times, it has been kidnapping spree by bandits and terrorists around the North West geo-political zone with Zamfara State being the worst hit.

In September 2023, bandits reportedly kidnapped a significant number of students of the Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State and reports indicate that these criminal elements would always storm their target areas in large numbers, leaving the security agencies helpless and unable to effectively check their activities.
