An Abuja-based businessman, Mr Onyeka Jonathan, has dragged his wife, Gloria, before a Customary Court in Jikwoyi, Abuja in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), seeking divorce over an alleged attempt on his life.

The petitioner, who resides in Jikwoyi, on the outskirts of the FCT, made the claims in the divorce suit filed against his wife before the Court on Thursday, September 23, 2021.

According to him; “I can’t continue to live under the same roof with this woman, she wants to kill me. There was a little misunderstanding between us, she ran to the kitchen and picked up a knife to stab me, luckily I escaped.”

Narrating his narrow escape to the Court, Jonathan said; “I had to scale the fence, to escape from her. I beg this honourable court to put an end to the marriage between me and my wife before she kills me.”

He also told the court how his wife had confessed to him that she belongs to an evil spirit that often controlled her actions.

In her defence, the respondent, Mrs Gloria Jonathan, a civil servant, denied all the allegations made by her spouse.

However, she also urged the Court to dissolve the marriage, saying, “I am fed up with this fruitless marriage”, adding; “I am treated with disdain because I am barren“.

The Presiding Judge, Labaran Gusau, thereafter adjourned the case to September 29, 2021, for judgment.
