A passenger train travelling from Abuja to Kaduna on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 derailed after reportedly missing a point.
The incident which triggered panic among passengers and loved ones, reportedly occurred on the Kaduna corridor shortly after the train departed Abuja around 11 a.m.
Details of the cause of the incident remain sketchy even as a video and pictures of the incident showed that some cabins of the train overturned, resulting in passengers scrambling for safety.
This was as a passenger on board the train described the development as frightening, and scene as chaotic, saying that people were scampering to safety in fear and confusion, adding that casualties were recorded but, figures were not ascertained.
Security sources however confirmed that military personnel have been deployed to the scene of the accident to assist in evacuating stranded passengers.
The management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation hasn’t issued a formal statement on the incident.
In the recent past the Kaduna–Abuja railway has faced multiple challenges including vandalism by criminals and terrorists attacks.
