The Secretary General of Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Mr. Bashir Lawal Ozigi, a Director with the National Board for Technical Education, Mr Abdul Isa Kofar-Mata, a medical doctor with Saint Gerrad Hospital, Kaduna Dr, Chinelo Megafu were among seven others confirmed dead from the attack by bandits on the Abuja-Kaduna passenger train late on Monday.
It was gathered that the Managing Director of the Bank of Industries (BOI) Mr. Adamu was among other passengers abducted by the bandits after their attack on the train.
Reports indicate that the dead persons suffered from gun shots’ injuries sustained during the terror attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train.
Others believed to have died in the attack include some security personnel and staff of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).
The Executive member of the TUC, Mr. Ayo Olorunfemi, who announced the death of Ozigi, said his remains would be buried today in Kaduna according to Islamic rites.
Many passengers, whose numbers could not be ascertain, equally sustained various degrees of injuries while others are still missing after the attack on the 970-passenger train by suspected terrorists.
Checks by Forefront News from different sources indicate that the actual number of missing persons could not be determined as the authorities are waiting for the manifest of the passengers on the train to enable it arrive at an accurate figure before the formal announcement of the identities of the dead and those abducted in the unfortunate attack.
One of the deceased persons, Dr. Chinelo Megafu, had tweeted during the attack that she had been shot.
Her Tweet read; “I’m on the train. I have been shot. Please pray for me”.
A professional colleague of Megafu, Dr. Michael Ajidahun, shared the sad news of her death just as another friend of the deceased, Steph Adamu, revealed that Megafu was making arrangement to leave Nigeria on this Friday.
Adamu said; “Dr. Chinelo was making an honest living. She was working at St Gerald’s hospital in Kaduna, she wanted more for herself and processed her papers to leave this hell-hole. She resigned last month to leave the country this Friday then this happened. Nigeria why???”
