The Deputy Governor in charge of Operations at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Adebayo Adelabu, will on July 15, 2018 call it quit at the nation’s apex bank after about four years on the saddle.

Already, President Muhammadu Buhari has formally accepted the disengagement from the bank in a letter he personally signed and dated May 24, 2018. In the letter, the President thanked Mr Adelabu for his services to the country and wished him well in his future endeavours.

According to the letter, which appreciated Mr Adelabu’s services in the apex bank since April 9, 2014, the President said; “I wish you the very best in your future ambitions and continued commitment to public service in our country and specifically, as you seek to play a more active role in politics, in your home State.”

Adelabu formally assumed duty as CBN’s Deputy Governor on April 9, 2014. Before tendering his disengagement letter, he had at different times served as Deputy Governor in charge of Financial System Stability (FSS); Corporate Services (CS); and Operations (Ops) during the four-year stint

Before joining the CBN, Adelabu made an indelible mark on the nation’s financial sector, where he rose to occupy the post of Executive Director/Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) Plc

Sources close to Adelabu hinted that he is widely considered as a possible heir to the Oyo State Government House after incumbent governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi’s eight year tenure in May 2019.

Forefront gathered that among the grand children of late Adegoke Adelabu, the revered political godfather of Oyo politics, Mr Adelabu is seen as having the political clout and financial muscles to dust other contestants and pick the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s gubernatorial ticket for next year’s elections.

Among contenders that Adelabu may face in the governorship primaries is the current Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, who is having a running battle with Governor Ajimobi over the control of Party’s structure in Oyo State
