Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi (Rtd), Former Chief Of Defence Staff, Dies At 75

Former Chief of Defence Staff between 1999 and 2003, Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi, is dead.

Ogohi reportedly passed on at the age of 75 after a brief illness on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

A close family sources said that the late Admiral Ogohi, suffered from age-related health issues for several weeks before he passed on at his Abuja residence in the early hours of Sunday, June 30, 2024

The family source said; “Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi passed on to glory a few minutes ago, early Sunday morning”.

                                                                     

Admiral Ogohi, who hailed from Okura, Lafia in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, was the first Naval officer to get to the rank of Four-star General in the Nigerian military, including being the first Chief of Defence Staff from the Nigerian Navy.

Admiral Ogohi CFR FSS MSS PSC, born on November 14, 1948, had his early education in St John’s College, Kaduna from 1962 to 1966 and later enrolled into the Nigeria Defence Academy in 1967 as a Regular Course 4 passing out in 1970.

He had his Midshipman course in United Kingdom in 1971 and Technical course in India in 1972 under the Water Warfare Course, India in 1976 and later the United States Naval War College Course in 1980 and in 1992.

The Late Ogohi was Commanding officer Eken NNS France in 1982, Commander NNS Anansa in 1985 and Director, Administration at the Nigeria Defence Academy from 1986 to 1987.

He became the Commanding Directing Staff at the National War College in 1992 and Deputy Commandant, Armed Forces Command Staff College, Jaji in 1995.

Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi was appointed as Chief of Defence Staff in June 199 till 2003.
