Goals from Chancel Mbemba, Yoane Wissa and Arthur Masuaku were all the Leopards of DR Congo needed to enjoy safe passage into AFCON semifinal round on Friday night.

In the game that got off to a frantic start, the Congolese fought back from a goal down to beat the Syli Nationale of Guinea in their quarter-final pairing.

The drama began early as the Guineans adamantly appealed for a penalty in the first minute before a defensive mix up at the other end presented Yoane Wissa with a golden opportunity from eight yards out.

However, in the heat of proceedings, the player who laces his boots for Brentford in the English Premiership dragged his shot wide off target.

With Mohamed Bayo’s early penalty putting the Syli Nationale on the front foot, Chancel Mbemba quickly even matters afterwards.

Wissa then scored from the spot himself to put the Leopards in front before Masuaku’s clever free-kick baffled Ibrahim Kone in the Guinea goal to cap off the victory.

With the semi-final berth now secured, the Leopards will now wait to face either the Eagles of Mali or hosts, Elephants of Ivory Coasts who will be filing out today (Saturday) February 3, 2024 in one of the last eight matches of the competition.
