- It’s Super Eagles 1 – 0 Palancas Negras

Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Friday night secured a berth in the semi-finals of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire by beating hard-fighting Palancas Negras (Black Sable Antelopes) of Angola 1-0 in Abidjan.
The quarter-final clash played at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium saw Ademola Lookman’s first-half strike effectively sealing the Eagles’ victory and ultimately their place in the last four.
Though Napoli’s talisman, Victor Osimhen had his goal ruled offside by a VAR check, he remained a constant threat for the Angolans while the trio of Lookman, Moses Simon, and Alex Iwobi also had excellent games.
Collectively, Nigeria’s defence line led by Skipper William Troost Ekong again showed extreme solidity to confirm their status as the meanest defence in the tournament so far. With quite some balance on that side, the Super Eagles have conceded only one goal in the competition.
With this victory, Nigeria will be facing the winner of Saturday’s quarter-final match between Cape Verde and South Africa in the semi-finals.
That encounter is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Stade de la Paix in Bouake by 6 pm Nigerian time.
