Again, Buhari Condemns Bandits’ Killings In Kaduna
- Kaduna Govt confirms over 20 deaths
- Says houses, trucks, cars, farmlands not spared
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – The now routine condemnation of terrorists’ carnage in Kaduna State by the Presidency surfaced again yesterday as the Kaduna government confirmed that over 20 citizens were killed during bandits’ attacks on several villages in Giwa local government area of the state.
Following reports by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirming that Military and Police authorities reported the deadly incident to the State Government, President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday expressed sadness at the renewed killings and declared them unacceptable.
The President, who condemned the dastardly act in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, on Sunday night, said the gruesome nature of recent incidents in Kauran Fawa, Marke and Ruhiya of Idasu Ward of Giwa Local Government Area, has made him particularly sad.
The statement, while noting that “Bandits within the week have also killed citizens in Zangon Kataf, Chikun, Birnin Gwari, Igabi and Kauru LGAs of Kaduna State”, said; “President Buhari affirmed that our security forces have turned the heat on the terrorists who are getting frustrated and are soft-targeting innocent citizens, looting their assets, burning their homes and killing them indiscriminately.
“He has reiterated his directive to the security and intelligence chiefs to do everything they can to destroy the remaining vestiges of the terrorists”, even as “He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased.
Similarly, the Media aide said; “The President also expressed the nation’s condolences to the Government of Kaduna State, the people of Zonkwa Chiefdom and the family of His Highness Nuhu Bature, the Agwam Kajju on his demise.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, had earlier in a statement disclosed that the Military and Police authorities reported bandits attacked Kauran Fawa, Marke and Riheya villages in Idasu, Giwa LGA, leaving more than 20 residents dead as of the time of this update.
He said Governor Nasir El-Rufai received with sadness reports of the killings as well as the destruction and burning of houses, trucks, and cars along with agricultural produce at various farms.
According to him; the governor sent condolences to the families of the victims of the brutal attacks while praying for the repose of their souls, adding that he also commiserated with the affected communities and directed the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KASEMA) to conduct an urgent assessment of the area towards providing relief.
The Commissioner said in the meantime, security agencies have stepped up sustained patrols in the general area to check further attacks from the terrorists/bandits and other criminal elements.
An earlier update on bandits attacks across villages in Idasu, Giwa Local Government Area by the security agencies confirmed to the Kaduna State Government indicated that 38 people were killed across the various locations attacked.
The reports said the identities of 29 victims have so far been confirmed with nine others yet to be identified as of the time of this update.
Aruwan, who assured that further details will be published as they are confirmed, released the names of the 29 victims on the list as:
