The political permutation in Rivers State is beginning to tilt in favour of Governor Siminalayi Fubara as a member of the House of Representatives, Hon Boniface Emerengwa, representing Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, has pledged loyalty to the State governor.

The development took place in the wake of a plethora of resignations and defection of some elected politicians across the Local Government Areas that were hitherto loyalists of former Governor Nyesom Wike but, who have now vowed to support Governor Fubara to succeed.

Hon Emerengwa is the member representing the Federal constituency of the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, who is the immediate past governor of Rivers State.

Emerengwa hails from Ikwerre Local Government Area, the headquarters of all the four Ikwerre-speaking Local Government Areas, including Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Obio/Akpor, and  Emohua.

While receiving Hon Boniface Emerengwa, who visited Fubara on Monday evening along with three other members of the House of Representatives, the Rivers State Governor, said that his administration would not allow itself to be distracted from delivering on its promises to good people of the State.

Hon Emerengwa declared that he was throwing his total support and loyalty to the Administration of Fubara since it is an established norm that the Governor is both the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the State.

The ranking member of the House of Representatives, who was first elected into the National Assembly in 2015, said he realised that it was unnecessary and futile to continue to struggle and fight over who controls the party and leads the State when the party and the nation’s constitutions were clear on the issue.

Hon Emerengwa, who is known to be a powerful and influential politician in Ikwerre ethnic nationality and also a former Local Government Chairman, vowed to mobilise thousands of his supporters in his constituency and lead them to join Governor Fubara in his efforts to take the State to heights of sustained peace and development.

He pointedly said that Rivers people had made their choice through their votes and gave their mandate to Governor Fubara, stressing that having secured electoral victory on March 18, 2023, and later affirmed by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Governor Fubara is now the number one citizen of Rivers State as prescribed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The lawmaker further said that only the blind will not see the giant strides Governor Fubara was already making in various sectors of the State, adding that the best way to assist the State to grow as Rivers people was to support the Governor in every way possible to achieve sustainable peace and accelerate inclusive development of the State.

Emerengwa was accompanied to Government House by three other members of the House of Representatives namely; Hon Awaji-Inombek Abiante of Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency; Hon Boma Goodhead of Akuku-Toru/Asari-Toru Federal Constituency; and Hon Anderson Allison Igbiks of Okrika-Ogu/Bolo Federal Constituency, who are also strong supporters of Governor Fubara.
