Akpabio Drags Natasha To Court Over ‘Demeaning’ Apology On Social Media
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio has taken legal action against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over a what he considered a demeaning social media post by the suspended senator representing Kogi Central senatorial district which he noted was intended to mock him.
The lawsuit which was filed on May 7, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, was in response to a satirical apology letter posted on Facebook by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
In the suit registered under suit number CS/384/25, Akpabio is demanding that Akpoti_uduaghan remove the controversial post from all her social media handles and pages.
Akpabio also wants a written apology from Akpoti-Uduaghan to be published in at least two national newspapers in addition to an affidavit to confirm that she has complied with the demands.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s post which was shared on April 27, was written in a sarcastic and satirical tone.
In what appeared a mimical and satirical apology letter, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, addressed Akpabio directly, pretending to apologise for what she described as having dignity and independence in the face of pressure.
Akpoti-Uduaghan further wrote on how she had supposedly failed to understand the “rules” of working in the Senate, adding in a mocking tone that the idea of success in the senate under Akpabio depended on submission as against merit.
She ended her apology with a dramatic expression of fake regret for choosing integrity over personal favours.
However, the legal counsels to Akpabio, led by Kehinde Ogunwumiju, claim that the Facebook post disobeyed a court order given on April 4, 2025.
He stressed that the order had instructed both parties to stay silent in public about the ongoing case involving sexual harassment claims.
The legal team of Akpabio pointedly declared that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s message crossed the line and ran contrary to the court’s directives.
