Following his inability to sway majority of Senators to agree to screen Festus Keyamo, SAN, as a ministerial nominee, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio on Monday hurriedly rushed to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja, to report on happenings in the upper chamber of the National Assembly which erupted into a rowdy session.

A visibly worried Akpabio, who had told the Senate that Keyamo was a nominee of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was sighted at the State House at about 3:00 pm on Monday, August 7, 2023.

Even though the purpose of the unscheduled visit of Akpabio to Aso was not made known, it was gathered that it might not be unconnected to a rowdy session on the floor of the Senate on Monday over the screening or otherwise of Keyamo by the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly which was earlier thrown into a rowdy session over a motion seeking to stop the screening of Keyamo as ministerial nominee.

The development followed a motion by Senator Darlinton Nwokocha representing Abia Central, calling for the suspension of Keyamo’s screening pending investigation and explanation on how disbursement of N52 billion public works programme to Nigerians across 774 local governments during his tenure as Minister State for Labour and Employment.
