Akpabio Unveils Chairmen, Vice Chairmen of Senate Standing Committees

President of the Senate, Godswill  Akpabio on Monday night unveiled the names of chairmen and vice-chairmen of the standing committees of the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

The announcement of the names by Akpabio on Monday shortly after the Senate resumed from its break at about 10.00pm indicated that his predecessor, Ahmed Lawan is now chairman of the Defence committee while the former governor of Zamfara State, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, who contested the Senate presidency against Akpabio will chair the committee on Water Resources with former governor of Edo State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole as Chairman of the Committee on Interior.

Others include the former Director of Treasury in the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Ibrahim Bomai as chairman of the FCT committee, while former ministers of communications, Senator Aliyu Bilbis from Zamfara State will serve as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Communications just as Senator Sani Musa (Niger East) is Chairman of the Committee on Finance.

The list also showed that Senator Abdulfatai Buhari (Oyo North), will be chairing the Committee on Aviation while Senator Osita Izunaso chairs the Committee on Capital Market just as former governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Seriake Dickson is chairman of Ecology with Senator Neda Imasuen (LP Edo South) is chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.

Similarly, former governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal was announced as the Senate committee chairman on Housing.
