Al-makura Cannot Make Appointments For In-coming Administration – IPAC
BY BABA AHMED, LAFIA – Former Chairman of Nasarawa State Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Barrister Haruna Iliya Favour, has declared that out-going Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura has no right to make political appointments for the incoming administration.
Favour told Forefront News during a chat that all appointments made by Al-makura from the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), to personal aides must vacate office on or before May 29th.
He said any attempt to remain in office beyond May 29th can be challenge in court or such appointees made to face anti-graft agencies except those on statutory appointment.
Favour, who is the state chairman of Independent Democrat (ID), also said that any transaction by any political appointee after the expiration of tenure of office of Governor Al-makura is null and void can attract the attention of anti-graft agencies.
He said that political appointment is at the pleasure of the governor and cannot be transferred to or inherited by an incoming administration.
This is coming at a time when Al-makura dissolved all appointments but remain silent on Boards and agencies like the Pilgrims Welfare Board and the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
According to Favour; “Section 208 is very clear and states that every political appointment is at the pleasure of the governor and as soon as he leaves, they cease to exist”.
“The new administration can re-appoints anybody but not inherit from an outgone administration”.
He urged the incoming administration to be steadfast and avoid banana peels.
