Alaafin Of Oyo Is Dead – Palace Confirms
The death of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi has been announced by the Palace of Oyo Kingdom.
Spokesman of the late Alaafin, Mr Bode Durojaye, confirmed the passage of the foremost traditional ruler in Oyo State in a terse response to a chat upon inquiry, stating; “Alaafin is dead. Details in due course”.
Information pieced together by Forefront News indicated that the octogenarian monarch died on Friday night in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital after a brief illness at the age of 83 years.
It was further gathered that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State had been informed of the passage of the traditional ruler.
Oba Adeyemi, who clocked 83 years on October 15, 2021, was believed to be receiving treatment at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti where he passed on.
His remains were conveyed back to Oyo to allow for the rites of passage to kick start ahead of his burial which is likely to take place later today.
The late Oba Adeyemi, who reigned for 52 years, was born on October 15, 1938, and is the third prominent Oba to have died in Oyo State in the last five months.
Others that died before him included the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Okadunni Oyewumi, who died on December 12, 2021, the late Olubadan of Ibadan – on January 2, 2022, the Asigangan of Igangan, Oba Abdul-Azeez Adewuyi – December 2021 and the traditional ruler of Ikoyi town in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Oba Abdulyekeen Ayinla, who also died this April 2022.
