Allege Intimidation: Imo State PDP Executive Committee Members Resign
Following allegations of the deployment of the instrument of violence and intimidation, the members of the Imo State executive committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Sunday announced their mass resignation from office.
The Party’s State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Collins Opuozor, who announced the resolve of the party leaders to resign their various positions, said that the executive committee members were overstretched and tired of the intimidation and violence against them by the Governorship candidate of the PDP for the November 2023 election in the State, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
Opuozor, who stated the position of the members of the Party executive committee while briefing journalists on the development, said that Anyanwu was also planning to harm them.
Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Governor of Imo State, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha resigned his membership of the PDP in March 2023 following what he described as the lack of fairness and equity in the process and conduct of the Governorship primary in the state by the PDP in which the Party Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who was an aspirant was the same officer that constituted members of the panel to conduct the Party primary.
Anyanwu, who is the National Secretary of the PDP, emerged as the governorship candidate of the Party in the scheduled November 2023 off-season elections in the state and accordingly listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The scheduled governorship off-season elections will also take place simultaneously in Bayelsa and Kogi States.
