Following concerted and discrete investigations being carried out into the alleged coup plot that was recently aborted by the military high command, some details of the plot are being unearthed.
A report by Daily Sun on Thursday, October 30, 2025, indicated that so far, all the arrested suspect involved in the coup that included a Brigadier General, Colonels, Lieutenant Colonels, Majors, and a Captain have made confessional statements on their roles and how they were coopted into the failed plot.
The report also gave details of how operatives from the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), working in collaboration with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), tracked and uncovered the huge amount of money meant for the sponsorship of the alleged aborted coup to the accounts of the former Bayelsa State governor, Timipre Sylva.
It was gathered that that the secret service was said to have gone after the former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources who is currently on the wanted list of the Agency for some time over his alleged role in the aborted coup plot.
The Report it was gathered pointed at Sylva as being the main financier of the aborted coup targeted at toppling the government of President Bola Tinubu.
It was further gathered that Sylva was allegedly fingered by some of the officers involved in the coup plot led by a Brigadier-General, a development that prompted the DIA operatives to go after the former Bayelsa State governor, who travelled out of the country immediately he got the information of the arrest of the suspected culprits.
It was also gathered that further probe on the huge financial involvement of Sylva as reportedly uncovered by a team of investigators from the DIA, led them to contact their counterparts in the NFIU and EFCC to uncover the tracks.
It was gathered that when news of the coup was first broken to President Tinubu, he did not believe it and demanded for concrete evidence which led the DIA contacting the two financial crime agencies for assistance.
Further checks indicated the outcome of the revelation by the three agencies convinced the president to believe that there was an attempted coup.
So far, all the culprits involved in the coup, including a Brigadier General, Colonels, Lieutenant Colonels and a Captain have made confessional statements on their roles and how they were “conscripted” into the game.
It was further gathered that a huge amount of money was meant to buy drones and other technological weapons to use for the coup, which was supposed to have less participation of physical troops.
Sources further revealed that Sylva, who is aggrieved over his non-inclusion in the Tinubu administration, is allegedly involved in illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta and other illicit businesses and operations.
It was further gathered that investigations into the coup have been concluded and the report would soon be submitted to the president, just as information pieced together indicated that the military would, in the coming days, make the matter public and give identities of the officers involved preparatory to a General Court Martial (GCM).
