BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – A Bauchi based whistle blower and anti-corruption activist, Comrade Lukman Isah Musa has petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) complaining against the Caretaker Chairman of Darazo Local Government Area of the State, Abbas Aliyu Waziri for alleged collection of double salaries.

The petition dated June 18, 2020 which was obtained by our Correspondent, indicated that Musa is accusing Abbas Waziri of receiving double salaries simultaneously by using two different names instead of three names he is officially addressed with.

According to Musa, the Caretaker Chairman is both on the payroll of the Local Government as Aliyu Abbas and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) as Waziri Abbas, a development he insisted is a fraudulent intent.

The petitioner also alleged that the Secretary of the Local Government, Adamu Manu Gidado, is also collecting double salaries as a teacher under the Local Education Authority and as the Council’s secretary.

Another person according to the whistle blower is a serving Councillor in the Local Government by name Ali Badamasi, who equally gets two salaries at the same time as civil servant and a Councillor.

Musa in the petition, said he was writing on behalf of the Darazo community and expressed confidence that the anti-corruption agency would investigate the matter and act on it.

When contacted, the Bauchi office of the ICPC confirmed receipt of the petition but efforts made to get reaction from the officials being accused, particularly the Caretaker Chairman, who was recently appointed, proved abortive as his phone was switched off as of the time of filing this report.
