Ther Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Lagos State chapter has announced the arrest and detention of one of its members, Prof (Dr) Martin Aghaji, consultant cardiac surgeon over alleged economic crime by the operatives of the Department of State Services DSS).
A statement by Dr Babajide Kehinde Saheed, Chairman of the NMA, Lagos State chapter, stated that Prof Aghaji was arrested on Thursday, July 2, 2026 in his house in Enugu and flown to the DSS Lagos State Command for alleged economic crime.
Dr Saheed however, said that the details of the alleged economic crime and other information remain classified to protect ongoing investigations.
Saheed explained that the Director of the DSS, Lagos State Command informed the Association about the arrest of Prof Aghaji and invited the NMA to the Lagos Command in view of the good relationship between the DSS, Lagos Command and NMA in the State.
According to Saheed; “On behalf of the Prof (Dr.) Afekhide Omoti-led NOC, a team comprising of Prof (Dr) Olayinka Atilola (National Publicity Secretary), Dr Babajide Saheed (Chairman NMA Lagos), Dr Bisoye Akinsulire (Publicity Secretary, NMA Lagos) and Dr Placid Ajachukwu (Rep of NMA Enugu State) were at the Lagos office of the DSS on Sunday, July 5, 2026.
“Prof (Dr) Martin Aghaji was released on bail on Monday, to the NMA team on liberal terms without any pressure, perfected by the team,” he stated.
