Following his alleged links to electoral malpractices in parliamentary election primaries for Ayawaso East Constituency, the President of Ghana, Mr John Mahama, has recalled the country’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Ahmed.

The recall of Ahmed was contained in a statement by the Ghanaian Presidency on Saturday, February 7, 2026 stating that the recalled High Commissioner, who was an aspirant, was as a result of his alleged role in election malpractice as a serving public officer.

The Ghanian presidency stated that the recall was with immediate effect, and emphasised that the decision was intended to avoid any perception of impropriety or conflict with the Government’s Code of Conduct for Political Appointees.

The statement further said that Ahmed’s continued stay in office was no longer tenable under the circumstances, even though allegations of vote buying were levelled against multiple aspirants who participated in the primaries.

The Ghanian presidency further explained that the decision followed allegations of voter inducement during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries held in the Constituency on Saturday.
