Alleged Embezzlement: SDP Suspends National Chairman, Two Others

The Social Democratic Party (SDP), on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, announced the immediate suspension of its National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, National Auditor, Nze Nnadi Clarkson and National Youth Leader, Uchechukwu Chukwuma.

The decision of the leadership of the Party was announced by the SPD National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, who said that the decision was part of a decisive step in addressing alleged financial impropriety within its ranks.

Aiyenigba said the suspended officers were alleged to have committed gross financial misconduct, embezzlement, misappropriation, and diversion of party funds.

He explained that the party has overwhelming evidence linking the affected officers to unauthorized financial transactions and personal enrichment schemes.

The SDP Spokesperson said an interim panel has been constituted to audit all financial records and recommend further appropriate disciplinary or legal actions to be take against the suspended officers.

Aiyenigba also said that the Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar, has been appointed to take charge of the affairs of the Party pending the outcome of the investigations.

The SDP Spokesperson explained that the suspension of the three officers has significant implications for the party’s internal dynamics and its efforts to maintain transparency and accountability.

He said the Party’s decision to take decisive action against alleged financial impropriety demonstrated its commitment to upholding the principles of good governance.

Aiyenigba further said that the outcome of the investigation will determine the fate of the suspended officials and the future direction of the party.
