Alleged Fraud: Court Remands Former FCT Minister, Bala In Kuje
Erstwhile Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Mohammed, on Wednesday was remanded in the Kuje Maximum Prison over fraud allegations.
Bala was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a six-count charge for allegedly abusing his office when he served as the FCT Minister.
He was sued at the High Court of the FCT for allegedly collecting gratification to the tune of N550 million while serving as Minister of the FCT. Mohammed is also accused of failing to declare the properties he owned.
The former Minister pleaded not guilty to the charge. The presiding judge, Abubakar Talba, after taking his plea for bail, adjourned the matter till May 12 for ruling on the application for bail.
The judge however directed that the defendant be remanded in prison custody pending the determination of his bail application.
