The police said they launched a detailed investigation to determine if foreign mercenaries and other subversive individuals were involved in the scheme against Nigeria’s democratically elected government.

The police specifically accused the British national, Wynne of building a network of sleeper cells to topple the government of President Tinubu with intention to plunge Nigeria into chaos.

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, told journalists at a briefing that the wanted Wynne had rented a place called ‘Iva Valley Bookshop’ at Labour House, located in Central district of Abuja, adding that the said Wynne established a group named ‘STARS of Nations Schools’ as a front for his activities.

ACP Adejobi further said; “The Nigeria Police Force has launched a comprehensive investigation into the activities of foreign national and subversive elements plotting to undermine the democratically elected government in Nigeria through unconstitutional regime change and orchestrating violence across the country.

“Following extensive intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies, nine suspects have been apprehended, who received substantial financial backing from foreign sources to destabilise the country.

“Preliminary findings suggest they orchestrated and funded violent protests, disseminated false information, and engaged in other unlawful activities to create anarchy and justify their illegal plot to overthrow the democratically elected government.

The spokesman of the Nigeria police Force further said that after extensive intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies, nine suspects were arrested.

The police said that the suspects were allegedly funded by foreign sources to destabilize the country, adding that preliminary findings showed they were behind violent protests, spreading false information, and engaging in other unlawful activities to create chaos and support their illegal plot to overthrow the government.

According to Adejobi; “This follows the recent arrest of some Polish individuals by the Department of State Services (DSS) during the hardship protest in Kano”.

Adejobi said documentary evidence and confessions revealed that Wynne provided finance and operational guidance to allegedly topple an elected government in the country.

According to the spokesman of the police; Documentary evidence and confessions revealed that Andrew Wynne issued directives, monitored progress, and provided finance and operational guidance to achieve unconstitutional regime change in Nigeria.

“He mobilised and deployed several billions of naira to his Nigerian collaborators, urging them to mobilise the public to violently storm police facilities and military barracks, anticipating a bloodbath that would instigate international condemnation of the Nigerian government. These acts are in clear violation of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act 2011 and other relevant laws,” he said.

Adejobi said Wynne and his local coordinator, Obiyan, have fled the country.
