BY WILLIAM ATTAH, GOMBE – Managing Director of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), and a Governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Gombe State, Dr. Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna has described the news of his alleged sack as the handiwork of his political opponents.

Gwamna has therefore threatened to take legal action if the media organisations that carried the fake report do not retract the reports within seven days.

Some online news portals on Thursday (14/04/2022) reported that Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna had been relieved of his duties owing to financial mismanagement and incompetence.

But reacting to the report, the Director of Publicity of the Jamilu Gwamna’s campaign organization, Ibrahim Sani Shawai, described the report as fake news that has dangerous and toxic intentions.

Shawai said the sponsored story which was not only fake and toxic, was baseless, unfounded and totally untrue and should be seen as the handiwork of opposition to Gwamna’s ambition of becoming the Governor of Gombe State.

He further said that the fake publication was politically-motivated to de-market Gwamna, being a political heavy weight and a top aspirant of the PDP vying for the governorship seat in Gombe State.

According to Shawai; “Dr. Gwamna has made a lot of impact and investments in youth and women and enjoys sheer love of the ordinary people. An achievement that is seen by opposition as a serious threat hence, they have resorted to fake publicity to harm his political image.

“To put the record straight, KEDCO under Dr Gwamna’s leadership has made highly impressive achievements, building the company to one of the best DISCOS in the country.

“The grounds that he was sacked because of financial mismanagement, is nothing but well fabricated lies aimed at suppressing the very impressive CV of Dr Gwamna,” he stressed.

Shawai however said that Gwamna would resign to face his gubernatorial ambition based on the guidelines from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in order to commence full scale political activities.

According to Shawai; “For now and as at today, he has not resigned, but will do that and inform the public and even if he resigns, he is still the MD of Sahelian Energy, a company which owns 50% of shares in KEDCO.

“It should be placed on record also that any news of sack of such high profile personality, will be done through the Board and the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and not from unserious online platforms which are the only source of such baseless information.

“It is also good to note that Fidelity bank has not in any way taken over the management and activities of KEDCO as it was insinuated by the online media”.

“The news outlets and their management by this release have seven days to apologise and withdrew such unfounded news or face the legal consequences of this malicious publication aimed at serving whatever interest they so wish,” Shawai stressed.
