As part of efforts to promote grassroots development and strengthen partnership with the media, the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, has donated a borehole to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council.
The donation was announced on Thursday, February 26, 2026, when the Chairman of NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike led members of her executive committee on a congratulatory visit following his victory in last Saturday’s Municipal elections.
Comrade Ike, who was represented on the visit by the Vice Chairman of the NUJ, FCT Council, Yahaya Ndambabo, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and the donation of the borehole, describing it as a demonstration of the chairman’s commitment to grassroots development and media collaboration.
While congratulating Maikalangu on what he described as a well-deserved landslide victory, the NUJ Chairman noted that the outcome reflected the confidence reposed in him by the residents of AMAC.
The NUJ boss highlighted infrastructural projects executed during Maikalangu’s first term, particularly in Sabon Lugbe and other communities, and reaffirmed the Union’s role in providing coverage and monitoring of elections across AMAC and the five other area councils in the FCT.
According to the NUJ Chairman; “This well-deserved victory reflects your people-oriented leadership, now further demonstrated by this generous donation to the NUJ FCT Council”.

The NUJ FCT Council urged Maikalangu to consolidate on his achievements in his second term.
In his remarks, Maikalangu thanked the NUJ FCT Council for the visit and for its consistent media support.
He attributed his re-election to grassroots engagement, infrastructure development, and empowerment initiatives that resonated with voters.
According to Maikalangu; “Politics is local; it is about the people at the grassroots, not just the city centres. My first-term projects laid the foundation for renewed public trust”.
The AMAC Chairman commended the unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that strong grassroots mobilization contributed significantly to the high voter turnout recorded in the elections.
Maikalangu said that the borehole donation to the NUJ FCT Council, underscores his commitment to collaborative development and sustained engagement with critical stakeholders, particularly the media.
