- Bids Transportation ministry, stakeholders farewell
Minister of Transportation and All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has formally called it quit from President Muhammadu Buhari’s federal cabinet to concentrate his energy on winning the ruling party’s ticket for the 2023 presidency.
With this development, the former River state Governor effectively met the Monday, May 16, 2022, official deadline given by the President for all political appointees eyeing elective offices in the 2023 general elections to resign their positions to avoid conflict of interests.
A statement signed by Kingsley Wali on behalf of the Amaechi Presidential Media Committee (APMC) in Abuja, said the Minister, in his resignation letter, expressed profound gratitude to the President for considering him fit to serve in his administration.
He equally thanked President Buhari for the enormous support given him that translated into the tremendous record of achievements witnessed in the Ministry of Transportation over the last seven years.
Furthermore, the statement quoted Amaechi as saying in his letter that; “It is with mixed feelings that I tender my resignation as the Minister of Transportation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to contest for the Presidential ticket of our great party, the All Progressives Congress.
“Your Excellency, it has been a great honour and privilege serving as a member of your cabinet following your historic victory at the polls in 2015. Under your administration, the Ministry of Transportation has recorded significant achievements, made possible by your visionary support and commitment to ensuring that we deliver on our mandate.
“As I embark on the next phase of our mission to work towards a better Nigeria for ALL NIGERIANS, I humbly seek Your Excellency’s prayers, blessings, and look towards your continuous support and guidance.
“Your Excellency, whilst humbly seeking your kind consideration of my request, please accept the assurances of my highest esteem.”
Widely acknowledged among the best performing ministers in the Buhari’s administration, the 56-year-old former governor is touted as part of the leading aspirants capable of springing a surprise in the APC presidential primaries.
Under his watch, many stakeholders in the nation’s transportation sector are of the opinion that agencies such as Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC); Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA); Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC); and Nigeria Port Authority (NPA), among others have witnessed remarkable transformation and repositioning for greater efficiency and effective mandate delivery.
