Barring unforeseen circumstances, the former governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, will formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) any moment from now.
The move is expected to significantly boost the growing coalition that has increase the political wave in the southwest, where former governor of Osun State and immediate past Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has emerged as a rallying force.
It was gathered that the movement of Ambode from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ADC followed the outcome of weeks of closed-door meetings and negotiations.
This was as political stakeholders and observers in Lagos State noted that Ambode’s defection would certainly widen the influence of the ADC that already has a chunk of the ardent followers of Mr Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
It was further gathered that Ambode’s defection will most likely have a quadruple effect on the APC as more heavy weight of the Party that were on the fence may toe the line of the former governor of Lagos State.
With the political landscape of the southwest heating up, the Ambode-Aregbesola alliance may reshape power configuration ahead of the 2027 election.
A date is yet to be fixed for the formal defection ceremony of Ambode to the ADC.
