Some angry youths on Monday, September 14, 2026, mobilized and engaged in another protest against the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The protest, it was gathered was a follow up to last Friday’s incident in Tambuwal Local Government during which the youth reportedly vandalised offices of the APC and blocked major highways in protest over what they described as “worsening insecurity, repeated bandit attacks and economic hardship” in the area.
The demonstrators particularly decried the rising cost of living and hardship and insisted that the situation had become unbearable for majority of the citizens.
The protest expectedly, paralysed commercial activities in parts of the local government area and reflected growing frustration among residents who accused government at all levels of failing to protect lives and property.
An eyewitness who crave for anonymity said the demonstrators barricaded major roads linking Tambuwal to other parts of the state, chanting slogans and demanding urgent government intervention.
The eyewitness also said that during the protest, the youths stormed the APC offices in the area and destroyed most of them, saying that the ruling party had abandoned communities to bear the brunt of banditry and kidnappings.
Another resident who simply identified himself as Bashir said that the people of the area have reached their height of tolerance over incidences of constant attacks, abductions, killings in the face of untold and unbearable hardship being experienced.
Bashir said; “The situation has become very difficult and unbearable. People can no longer sleep with their eyes closed. It is one form of attack or the other on daily basis. We are left with nothing to pay for ransom any more. Yet, the government does not seem to care as the bandits attack us almost on daily basis, kidnap people. The people have finished selling all they have for the payment of ransom. What else should the people do?
However, when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Sokoto State Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, said the APC office was not burnt, but the window glasses, some bill boards and other things were destroyed, but not burnt.
Commenting alleged plan for another protest slated for Tuesday by the angry youths, DSP Rufai said the command was leaving no stone unturned and has deployed personnel to take control of any situation.
Rufai further said; “We have personnel on ground there since Friday. You know, with any protest you just don’t leave the scene. We expect there could be an uprising again. So, we are on alert”.
Meanwhile, community leaders in Tambuwal have called on both the state and federal governments to as a matter of urgency deploy more security personnel to the area to frontally address the root causes of banditry that have taken over the area.
The leaders appealed to the youths to give peace a chance and should explore dialogue in their demands, stressing that destruction of public property would not solve the security challenges.
