Another Journalist In Nasarawa State Escapes Assassination

BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – Some unidentified gunmen on Thursday morning attempted to assassinate a Journalist working with the Nasarawa State Broadcasting Service (NBS), Mr Ibrahim Dawayya.
The gunmen numbering about 20 dressed in black attire gained entrance into the compound that has only two flats through the gate and attacked only the house of Ibrahim shouting “we are here for you”.
Ibrahim, whose house is located in the GRA area of Lafia, the state capital is the sixth journalist to be attacked in the last few weeks after Godwin Agwam of TVC News and Linus Oota of the Nation newspapers.
Others targeted journalists include Abubakar Abdullahi of Liberty TV, Joshua Ojito of NTA and
Benjamin Ekon, an Information officer and former executive member of the State Executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nasarawa State Council, who was hacked to death in front of his house.
Although Ibrahim managed to escape through the fence with cuts and bruises but all his valuables and gadgets were carted away after the gunmen harassed his wife and younger brother.
“I had people arguing this is his car and that is his flat. So, I asked, who is there? And they immediately responded, ‘we are here for you’. Because we have only two flats in the compound. So, I ran through the back door and scaled the fence”.
“I have reported the matter to the police authorities and they came and inspected the place”.
“They were all dressed in black with guns. In fact, one of them was loading bullets into the gun,” he said.
