Following what it described as unacceptable “anti-party activities”, the Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) on Saturday, September 6, 2025, announced the expulsion of Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the House of Representatives and a supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The announcement came less than 48 hours after Jibrin declared that it wouldn’t be a surprise if he left the Party, saying that he was old enough to take a stand on what is best for him politically.
Announcing the decision of the NNPP to expel Jibrin from the Party, the Chairman of the NNPP in Kano, Mr Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, said the leadership of the Party has tolerated the member of the House of Representatives for too long, stressing that the Jibrin had severally embarked on “media outbursts” against the party.
Dungurawa noted that Jibrin a weak politician with no firm political base, adding that his political success was not won based on his merit but the leadership of the Party.
The NNPP chairman explained that a reconciliation committee was initially setup to engage with Jibrin, but he failed to abide by the decisions reached as he went again on another media propaganda which clearly showed that he “crossed the line.”
In the words of Dungurawa; “Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against the interest of the NNPP by openly declaring loyalty outside the party. It is clear that he has no value to add. He has to go. That was why we expelled him.
“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined the NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a member of the House of Reps. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong.”
Dungurawa also accused Jibrin of failing to pay the mandatory party dues and vowed that the NNPP would take legal action to recover what he owes the party.
According to the NNPP Chairman; “It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so”.
Dungurawa said that the return of Jibrin to the APC would not in any way affect the strength and fortunes, emphasising that politics is about groups and coalitions.
