- Insists arrangement promotes unity, peace, equity
BY UBON EKANEM – The Cross River State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has affirmed its readiness to give legal teeth to power rotation policy in the state to forestall unforeseen attempts by certain selfish politicians to truncate the noble and peace-promoting arrangement in future.
According to the ruling Party, a careful analysis of the March 18 governorship election results in the state portray a referendum-like affirmation of an unwritten belief and faith in the existing power rotation practice among the three senatorial districts in Cross River.
Dropping the hint at a media conference in Calabar, the State capital, the Party Chapter Chairman, Barrister Alphonsus Eba said experience from the last gubernatorial poll where ethnic bigotry was bandied around by opposition candidates against the spirit of equity and fair play should not be allowed to repeat itself for the sake of unity and good neighbourliness across the State.

Eba, while throwing more light on the importance of giving legal teeth to the policy, irrespective of party affiliation and political divide, said it was commendable and greatly soothing that the people decided to shun religious politics and ethnic bigotry to stand firm on the reassuring path of truth, fairness, and unity.
The APC Chairman referred to the election outcome as a referendum that has further cemented the Party’s resolve to honour and keep to the lofty precedent set by past political leaders and stakeholders in the state.
He also reaffirmed the Governor-elect’s pledge that the incoming administration would run an all-inclusive government where capable hands, even in the opposition, would be invited on board.
For media practitioners, the APC Chairman promised that they would also be granted pride of place after distinguishing themselves as reliable partners in the struggle to promote democratic growth and development in the state over the years.
