APC National Chairmanship: Push For Yuguda’s Emergence Garners Force
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – There are strong indications that former Governor of Bauchi State, Malam Isa Yuguda may have cast his political nest into the race for the position of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A close political ally to Yuguda, Malam Muhammadu Kundak told our correspondent that taking into consideration the preparation of the APC for the eventual exit of President Muhammadu Buhari, whose popularity the party is relying upon and enjoying, there is also the need to get a respected politician and a mobilizer that would be able to reposition the party and make it more acceptable and relevant.
Kundak, who was the Special Adviser on Political Matters during the administration of Yuguda as governor of Bauchi State, said that the general fear remains that if President Buhari leaves office by 2023, the APC may fade away except another reputable personality is made to lead the party.
He said; “Isa Yuguda enjoys genuine political followership in his home base, he has friends across the country irrespective of political party, ethno-religious divide. He is a good material to lead the party post Muhammadu Buhari.
“Isa Yuguda holds the traditional title of Obasayero of Oyo Empire and the Otun Atayese of Ogotun Ekiti, these relationships have placed him atop any other contender for the leadership of the party”.
Kundak further said that since Isa Yuguda joined the APC, he injected new leadership style into the party, particularly the base of the party in Bauchi state which has grown tremendously devoid of rancor and acrimony because of his cordial relationship with members of the party.
He also revealed that discussions are ongoing at the highest level of the APC to ensure that the party gets it right this time around, stressing that because Yuguda is a bridge builder, the National Chairmanship of the party fits him.
Kundak further said that that consultations are going on with the party members across the geo-political zones of the country on how to achieve a smooth sail for Yuguda.
Kundak, who also served as Assembly Liaison during the administration of Yuguda, expressed optimism that considering the political weight of Yuguda, he will be able to garner the needed support to become the next National Chairman of the ruling APC.
