APC National Vice Chairman For Northwest, Salihu Lukman Resigns

The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress for North-West zone, Mr Salihu Moh Lukman, has resigned from the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

Lukman’s resignation letter was submitted to the Acting National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abubakar Kyari on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

His resignation is coming about 10days after resignation of the former National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and the National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

It was however, gathered from sources within the APC National Secretariat that Lukman was not comfortable with the move to appoint former governor of Kano State, Dr, Abdullahi Gabduje by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and governors on the platform of the party as replacement for Senator Abdullahi Adamu as National Chairman of the APC.

Lukman, it was further gathered remains resolute that the appointment of Ganduje would distort the zoning arrangement of the Party by making the North-west become get more than its fair share of zoned positions while at the same time denying other zones particularly the North-central zone of their entitled positions.

Lukman’s letter of resignation which was sighted by Forefront News indicated that he hinged his reasons on what he described as ‘interference and illegal acts’ in the affairs of the party, which he stressed were inimical and at variance with the vision of the founding fathers of the APC.

Lukman said that he preferred to throw in the towel than remain in the National Working Committee of the APC, adding that the atmosphere in the party is completely at variance with the founding vision of the APC.

 He also said that he does not believe in remaining in the APC NWC to continue his agitation and be seen as a distraction.

Part of the letter read; “Your Excellency, I hereby kindly resign my position as National Vice Chairman, North-West of our great party, All Progressives Congress.

“My resignation is with immediate effect, which becomes necessary given my conviction that the atmosphere in the party is completely at variance with the founding vision of forming a progressive party”.
